With 20 books written after only four years, award-winning author Kim Ann is no novice to the world of self-publishing. In fact, she’s sought after by many aspiring authors for coaching and marketing guidance. You might recognize her Ruby the Rainbow Witch, Go On Vacation, and Goldy the Puppy series of books that inspire young readers to use their imagination and develop a love for reading. Her latest endeavor, books of encouraging affirmations that she wrote with author Yobe Qiu, landed in the hands of some of the world’s most renowned actors. Quick Affirmations for Super Busy Women and Quick Affirmations for Super Busy Men were showcased inside this year’s gift baskets that Oscar nominees received at the Academy Awards. Kim gives her 19-year-old son Aidan credit for the launch of her writing career. After being born prematurely, Aidan remained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 143 days, where she read to him. To this day, she said she still runs every story draft by him, and it’s been a recipe for success ever since.
I chatted with Kim to ask eleven questions that will give you an inside look at the author behind the books.
1. How would you describe yourself in five words?
Creative, Motivated, Happy, Fun, Fulfilled
2. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I know how to make balloon animals and balloon artist was my costume when I was on "Let’s Make A Deal."
3. Where do you get your inspiration from for your stories?
All kinds of places. Random thoughts I get on walks or from real people and animals in my life.
4. What is one piece of advice you have for other writers who are just starting out?
Even children’s books need professional editing. Find one that you want to work with and wants to work with you. It makes such a difference in the end.
5. What is one mistake you made as an author that you want to share with other writers?
Whenever possible get professional referrals from other authors. I spent so much time and money working with a few of the wrong people in the past.
6. What time of day are you most creative?
I prefer to write at night when everyone else is asleep or watching tv in another room. I love the quiet.
7. What’s the last TV show you binged watched?
Selling Sunset on Netflix.
8. In your Go On Vacation series, the characters get to go on vacation. If you could pick your top three vacation spots right now, where would you go?
I would have to say anywhere with beaches like Hawaii, Key West, or the Bahamas.
9. Which is your favorite series you created and why?
Goldy the Puppy is probably my favorite. I never intended to write a book about her, never mind a whole series. Goldy the Puppy and the Missing Socks turned out to be a fan favorite.
10. What is the best room in your house for writing?
My office, which I converted from our old playroom.
11. What’s the best thing about living in California?
I love the California weather and beaches.

Routine trips to Disneyland with her daughter played a role in Stacy's passion for storytelling.
Her daughter inspired the idea for Journey to Zentobia on a road trip home from one of their visits to the happiest place on Earth. They would pass a piece of paper back and forth in the car and each write part of a story. Her daughter's idea for a brother and sister to transport back in time through a rainbow portal stuck with Stacy for almost two years before she sat in front of the computer and began to write Journey to Zentobia.
Though she changed her daughter's original idea of the main characters going back in time to ending up in another world, the credit still goes to her innovative, young mind.
When she wasn’t working on this children's book, she wrote freelance stories for
newspapers and magazines. Prior to that, she worked in the public relations
industry in Las Vegas for more than 25 years.
